Tragedy Strikes as Fijian Student Drowns in Kansas Dam Accident

The tragic drowning of 21-year-old Kaiava Francis has left his family in Fiji devastated. Francis reportedly drowned at the Detners dam in Kansas, USA, last Saturday while swimming with friends. According to an international media source, Kake Television in Wichita, Kansas, he jumped into the water but was quickly swept away by the current of the Neosho River. Local authorities recovered his body the same day for identification purposes. A close family member expressed their shock upon hearing the news, stating, “When I received the news, I didn’t know how to react.” Francis, the second eldest of four siblings, hailed from Wailevu, Labasa, and had maternal connections to Waibasaga in Wainimala, Naitasiri.
