The tragic drowning of 21-year-old Kaiava Francis has left his family in Fiji in a state of shock after he was reported to have died at the Detners dam in Kansas, USA, last Saturday.

According to reports from Kake Television in Wichita, Kansas, Francis jumped from the dam while swimming with friends but was unfortunately swept away by the current of the Neosho River. His body was found on the same day and taken by local authorities for identification.

A close family member, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed their devastating reaction upon hearing the news, stating, “When I received the news, I didn’t know how to react, I was in shock.”

Francis was the second eldest of four siblings and hailed from Wailevu, Labasa, with maternal ties to Waibasaga, Wainimala, Naitasiri.
