Kaminieli Varo, a 32-year-old father of five, was laid to rest in his village of Navoci, Nadi, last Friday following a tragic incident in New South Wales, Australia. Varo drowned in the Murrumbidgee River near Yanco earlier this month, and his body was recovered a few days later.
Having moved to Australia in 2022 under the National Employment Centre (NEC) Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme, Varo had been on a four-year contract that was set to conclude next year. His wife, Mere Dawai, expressed sorrow as he was supposed to return home in time for Christmas to be with their family.
During the memorial service, friends and family gathered to pay their respects. The family expressed deep gratitude toward Varo’s colleagues and friends who participated in the search efforts to find him. One of his workmates delivered a touching eulogy, highlighting Varo as a dedicated family man who tirelessly worked to provide for his loved ones.
Kaminieli Varo is survived by his wife and five children, leaving a legacy of love and hard work that will be remembered by all who knew him.
In reflecting on this somber event, it’s essential to remember the support and community shown during this difficult time. The coming together of friends, family, and colleagues illustrates the strength of community bonds that can uplift those in mourning. Hopefully, in the wake of this tragedy, Varo’s family can find comfort in the love surrounding them and in the cherished memories they shared.
