A young man in his 20s tragically lost his life following an explosion in Wainibokasi yesterday afternoon. The incident occurred when an empty diving gas tank exploded while a co-worker was using a grinder to cut it, resulting in severe injuries to the victim. The explosion caused shrapnel from the tank to strike the victim, leading to his unfortunate death.

In addition to the victim, the co-worker operating the grinder, along with another employee present during the incident, sustained injuries and were promptly rushed to the Wainibokasi Health Centre. They were later transferred to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital for further care.

Authorities have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the explosion, aiming to uncover the details of this tragic event.

This incident bears resemblance to another unfortunate occurrence reported earlier in Nadi, where a man in his 20s died from injuries due to an explosion while performing maintenance on a yacht. Both incidents highlight the potential dangers associated with working in environments involving gas and machinery, emphasizing the significance of stringent safety protocols.

As investigations progress, it is hoped that such incidents lead to enhanced safety measures that can prevent future tragedies, ensuring the protection of workers in hazardous environments.
