A man in his thirties has tragically lost his life in a motor vehicle accident in Nasinu early this morning. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the collision happened near the Nasinu road junction shortly after 3am.
The deceased was driving towards Suva when another vehicle, operated by a man also in his thirties traveling in the opposite direction, collided with his car. Despite efforts to save him, the victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.
Investigations into the incident are currently ongoing. In light of this tragedy, SSP Divuana emphasized the importance of road safety, urging drivers to remain vigilant. “Road safety stakeholders continually remind all road users about the necessity of safe driving practices. Sadly, daily recorded traffic violations suggest that many still do not heed these warnings,” he stated.
He further noted that complacency can lead to serious accidents and the loss of lives, urging everyone to adopt a safer mindset as we approach the festive season. The current road death toll stands at 46, a decrease from 68 at the same time last year, highlighting the potential for improvement in road safety if users remain cautious.
This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the critical importance of adhering to road safety regulations and the need for collective vigilance to prevent further tragedies on the roads.
