A tragic road accident in Davota, Tavua, has claimed the life of a Year 9 student this morning. The young boy was on a bus traveling from Waikubukubu to Tavua town at approximately 7 am. After the bus made a designated stop, he exited to allow other passengers to get off. However, as the bus began driving away, he reportedly tried to reboard but slipped and sustained fatal injuries.

Emergency services promptly transported his body to the Tavua Hospital Mortuary, where it is set to undergo a post-mortem examination. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.

This incident is particularly poignant as it follows closely on the heels of another fatality in the area, where a 21-year-old man lost his life just days earlier after losing control of his car during an overtaking maneuver. These tragic occurrences highlight an urgent need for enhanced road safety measures. Despite the current road death toll being reported as 31 this year, reflecting some improvement from 57 fatalities last year, there remains a pressing necessity for increased community awareness and strict adherence to safety regulations.

Such unfortunate events serve as a critical reminder of the importance of road safety vigilance. Educating both drivers and pedestrians on safety practices could lead to positive changes, fostering a safer environment for all community members.
