A tragic accident in Kulukulu, Sigatoka, early this morning resulted in the deaths of a man and a woman. The incident occurred around 2 AM when the vehicle, driven by an allegedly intoxicated driver, failed to navigate a bend while heading towards Sigatoka Town, ultimately colliding with an electric post.

Both victims lost their lives at the scene, while two other passengers—one male and one female—have been hospitalized and are receiving medical care. Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic and Transport Control, expressed his sorrow over the accident and noted that this marks the second fatal incident in the area within a 24-hour period.

SSP Divuana urged drivers to exercise caution and responsibility on the road, emphasizing the importance of considering the safety of their passengers and pedestrians. He reassured the public that both the Police and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will maintain vigilant patrols to enhance road safety.

This tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the risks associated with driving under the influence and the crucial need for all drivers to prioritize safety. The ongoing efforts by law enforcement to promote responsible driving can help prevent similar tragedies in the future, fostering a safer environment for all road users.

In light of this incident, it is essential to reflect on the importance of community awareness regarding road safety and the collective responsibility we share in protecting one another.
