Ilisabeta Dravuni’s heartfelt farewell to her two sons was tragically followed by a devastating phone call. While she was away attending a church crusade in another village in Naitasiri, she learned that her sons had been in a serious accident; sadly, her younger son, Serupepeli Lalabalavu, 25, did not survive.

Upon arriving at Vunidawa Hospital, Ilisabeta received the heartbreaking news that her younger son had passed, while her older son, Waisea Qaliyalewa, 20, was taken to CWM Hospital. In a state of grief, Ilisabeta was informed that she had lost Serupepeli when they arrived at the hospital.

Reports indicate that the two brothers had been drinking at their home in Waitolu, Naitasiri, when an argument reportedly escalated, leading to the fatal accident. Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana urged Fijians to drink responsibly and remain aware of the potential dangers of excessive alcohol consumption.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the grave consequences of irresponsible behavior, particularly regarding alcohol. It’s essential for families and communities to engage in open discussions about safety and the importance of responsible drinking to prevent such heartache in the future.

As the community rallies around Ilisabeta and her family in this time of sorrow, it also highlights the need for solidarity and support during crises, aiming to foster a safer environment for all. Together, by promoting responsible behaviors and looking out for one another, we can hope to reduce the incidence of such tragedies.
