A family is facing a profound loss as they mourn the passing of their 10-year-old son, Kiliaoni Lili Qalotaki, whose body was tragically found in the Navua River. Kiliaoni’s father, Semi Qalotaki, a 45-year-old pastor, shared the distressing details of that day, explaining how his son had initially been playing with friends and was eventually persuaded to swim. Despite his father’s initial objection, the allure of swimming accompanied by friends was too great. Soon after, the family received devastating news that Kiliaoni had been taken by the current.
For three agonizing days, the boy’s family, along with local residents, police, and the Fiji Navy, scoured the area in search of him. Their search concluded yesterday with the recovery of Kiliaoni’s remains, bringing a sense of closure to his family. In a moment of reflection, Mr. Qalotaki expressed gratitude for the recovery, stating, “We are grateful and at peace knowing his body has been found and that he is with the Lord.”
