An 8-year-old girl has tragically become the latest victim of a road accident in Fiji, according to the Fiji Police Force. The incident occurred on the night of November 28, when she was crossing Edinburgh Drive with her father. They were reportedly struck by a vehicle operated by a 43-year-old driver. Both victims were immediately transported to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital; however, the young girl was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival.

The Director of Traffic, Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, noted that the national road death toll currently stands at 55, a decrease compared to 74 deaths during the same timeframe last year. This statistic suggests some progress in road safety measures, although the loss of life remains a profound tragedy.

Such incidents highlight the importance of road safety awareness, particularly for pedestrians. This heartbreaking event serves as a reminder for drivers to remain vigilant, especially in areas where children may be present.

In light of this tragedy, communities can come together to advocate for safer road conditions and enhanced education for both drivers and pedestrians, fostering a safer environment for everyone.

Summary: An 8-year-old girl was killed in a road accident in Fiji while crossing a street with her father. The national road death toll has seen a decrease compared to last year, underscoring the ongoing need for improved road safety.
