Tragedy Strikes: 70s Woman Dies in Bypass Crash

A woman in her 70s has tragically lost her life in a motor vehicle accident on the Viseisei bypass road yesterday. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic, reported that the deceased was a passenger in a car driven by a 36-year-old woman, who is suspected of losing control of the vehicle. This loss of control caused the car to veer off the road and collide with a post. The impact resulted in the vehicle swinging back onto the road, where it struck another vehicle.

SSP Divuana noted that the suspect is currently hospitalized at Lautoka Hospital. Fortunately, the driver of the other vehicle and their passenger were unharmed. He emphasized that speeding is believed to be the cause of the accident and urged all drivers to adhere to speed limits to ensure everyone’s safety. The current road death toll stands at 37, a significant decrease from 60 during the same period last year.
