A woman in her 70s has died following a car accident on the Viseisei Bypass Road in Vuda, Lautoka, on Sunday afternoon. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the woman was a passenger in a vehicle operated by a 36-year-old female suspect. Initial reports suggest that the suspect lost control of her vehicle, resulting in it veering off the road and colliding with a post. The force of the crash caused the vehicle to swing back onto the road, where it struck another vehicle.
The suspect has been admitted to Lautoka Hospital, while the driver of the second vehicle and his passenger were unharmed. SSP Divuana indicated that speeding was believed to be a factor in the incident, and drivers are being urged to adhere to speed limits to ensure safety for all.
The victim’s family has chosen not to speak to the media, as it is reported that the suspect is a relative. The police noted that the current road death toll has reached 37, a decrease from 60 fatalities during the same period last year.
