A 20-year-old man has been identified as the latest victim of a road accident in the country. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the young man was one of three passengers in a vehicle driven by a 30-year-old man that crashed on Kings Road in Naviyago, Lautoka, on Saturday morning.
The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to collide with the railing of the Naviyago bridge before falling into the river. The 20-year-old victim, a resident of Matanagata in Tavua, was rushed to Lautoka Aspen Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Another passenger is still hospitalized, while the other occupants of the vehicle received treatment and have since been discharged. Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
SSP Divuana noted that the current road death toll stands at 41, a decrease compared to 63 fatalities in the same period last year.
