A tragic incident occurred in Sabeto, Nadi, where a 12-year-old student lost his life after being ejected from a moving vehicle. The boy was reportedly one of several youths traveling on the back tray of a utility vehicle when it navigated through potholes, which caused him to fall onto the roadway. Despite being quickly transported to Sigatoka Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, expressed his condolences regarding the incident, highlighting the ongoing concern for road safety, especially during the festive season. He noted that, even with a visible police presence and efforts to promote safe driving habits, some drivers still act irresponsibly. ACP Driu emphasized that the police cannot monitor every vehicle on the road, underscoring the need for drivers to take personal responsibility for safety.

The deceased’s body is currently at Sigatoka Hospital, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety, particularly during busy periods. Increased awareness and responsibility among drivers could help prevent similar accidents in the future. Communities can come together to advocate for safer driving practices, ensuring the safety of all road users, especially the youth.
