Tragedy on Viseisei Bypass: Elderly Woman Dies in Crash

A woman in her 70s lost her life in a motor vehicle accident on the Viseisei bypass road yesterday. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, Director of Traffic, reported that the victim was a passenger in a vehicle operated by a 36-year-old female suspect.

Initial investigations suggest that the suspect may have lost control of her vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and collide with a post. The force of the impact then propelled the vehicle back onto the road, where it struck another vehicle.

Currently, the suspect is being treated at Lautoka Hospital, while the driver of the second vehicle and his passenger emerged without any injuries. SSP Divuana emphasized that speeding is believed to be a contributing factor to the accident and reminded drivers to adhere to speed limits for the safety of all road users.

The road death toll has reached 37 this year, a decrease from 60 during the same timeframe last year.
