A tragic motor vehicle accident occurred on Valley Road in Sigatoka yesterday, resulting in the death of a man in his 20s. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the victim was one of four passengers in a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old when it veered off the road and rolled over several times near Navula in the afternoon.
SSP Divuana stated that the driver allegedly lost control, causing the car to crash. The impact ejected the victim from the vehicle, leading to severe injuries that ultimately resulted in his death. The other passengers, as well as the driver, were quickly transported to Sigatoka Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical care as investigations into the incident are ongoing.
It’s worth noting that this horrifying incident contributes to the national road death toll, which now stands at 55. In comparison, there were 74 fatalities reported during the same period last year, indicating a slight improvement in road safety despite the recent tragedy.
This unfortunate event serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of road safety and responsible driving behaviors. It is hoped that through increased awareness and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, such devastating accidents can be prevented in the future.
