Tragedy on Tracks: One Dead in Fiery Locomotive Incident

A tragic incident occurred in Lausa, Tavua, resulting in the death of a 55-year-old man following an accident involving a locomotive operated by the Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC). The man, a local resident, was traveling with a 44-year-old locomotive driver, who is now receiving treatment at the Lautoka Aspen Hospital.

The incident took place around noon when the locomotive, which was transporting filled railroad carts to the FSC Mill in Ba, fell to the left into a dry creek as it approached the FSC Train Lane Bridge. The train fell from a height of approximately five meters, leaving both the driver and the deceased trapped inside the locomotive.

Authorities, including officers from Tavua Police and the Fire Station, worked together to rescue the two individuals from the wreckage. While the 55-year-old lost his life due to the incident, the locomotive driver is currently recovering in the hospital.
