Prominent radio personality Maikeli Radua tragically lost his life in a road accident in Nadera, Nasinu, yesterday. He was 50 years old.
According to police reports, Radua, who resided in Kinoya, is believed to have lost control of his vehicle, causing it to veer off the road. Bystanders rushed him to the Valelevu Health Centre, where attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. Investigators are currently awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Radua was well-known for his contributions as one of the pioneers of Communications Fiji Limited’s iTaukei language speaking station, VITIFM, making a significant impact on the media landscape in Fiji.
This heartbreaking incident echoes a troubling trend of road accidents in the region. Previous reports highlighted other tragic fatalities, such as a 27-year-old man who lost his life in a similar accident in Rakiraki. The current road death toll stands at 38, indicating a decrease from 62 fatalities during the same period last year.
The loss of Radua serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for increased vigilance among drivers. Community leaders and safety advocates are urged to engage in ongoing discussions about road behaviors to mitigate such accidents.
