A man in his 50s is thought to be the most recent road fatality in the country after a crash in Davuilevu this morning.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic, reported that the man was driving home after completing his night shift when he allegedly lost control of his vehicle. This caused the car to veer off the road and collide with a post.
Emergency responders from the National Fire Authority and Police arrived at the scene. The victim was subsequently taken for medical treatment but was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
SSP Divuana noted that a post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death.
Currently, the national road death toll has reached 40, in comparison to 63 fatalities during the same time frame last year.
