A father from Nayawa, Sigatoka, is grappling with profound sorrow after the tragic loss of his son, Ravneel Lal, who was just 22 years old. Ravneel lost his life in a devastating motor vehicle accident that occurred on Sunday afternoon along Navula Valley Road in Nadroga.
Ravneel was one of four passengers in a car driven by a 22-year-old when the vehicle lost control and rolled multiple times. His father, Rohit Lal, expressed the deep emotional void left by his son’s passing, saying, “I will have to face the world without him.”
The young man was passionate about cars and had spent time upgrading his own vehicle, having bought it just a year prior. He was preparing to showcase it at car shows, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, who operates the David Driving School.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the driver lost control, which resulted in the accident that ultimately threw Ravneel from the car, causing fatal injuries. The other passengers and the driver were taken to Sigatoka Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical care while investigations are ongoing.
SSP Divuana urged all drivers to exercise caution while on the road, stressing the importance of safe driving attitudes as a key factor in preventing accidents. He highlighted the critical nature of adhering to road safety advice to reduce the likelihood of such tragic incidents, which can lead to severe injury or loss of life.
As a hopeful note, despite the sorrow surrounding this incident, it’s worth recognizing that the current national road death toll has decreased to 55, down from 74 during the same period last year, suggesting that efforts to improve road safety may be having a positive impact.
In summary, this tragic loss serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of prioritizing safety on the roads.
