Opposition MP Joseph Nand has expressed his outrage over the results of an investigation into the tragic death of a Japanese tourist at a Sigatoka resort, deeming the findings “shocking and unacceptable.” His comments came after a 50-year-old Japanese national faced difficulties while snorkeling at the resort earlier this month, leading to a fatal incident.
Nand condemned the resort’s apparent failure in providing essential welfare and safety measures. He stressed that tourists generally expect resorts to meet strict safety standards, yet the Occupational Health and Safety results are “deeply disturbing” and raise concerning questions about the safety of guests at other resorts as well.
He called for immediate strategic actions to address these critical lapses, emphasizing that there appears to have been a significant failure by the authorities tasked with overseeing OHS compliance in resorts.
