The tragic drowning of Zou Fan, a 52-year-old businessman from Martintar, Nadi, has left his family and the local community in deep sorrow. Known affectionately as Andy, he was a well-loved executive at the tourist agency Fabulous Holiday. His son, Zou Junjie, expressed his heartbreak, describing his father as a kind and cheerful man who brought joy to those around him.
Two weeks ago, while taking a group of 80 Chinese tourists to explore a beach club in the Mamanuca Group, Andy went snorkelling but did not return. According to Mr. Zou, a New Zealand couple later discovered his father’s body floating nearby.
Brad Rutherford, the CEO of South Sea Cruises, confirmed awareness of a death but noted that it’s unclear if it was due to drowning pending an autopsy report. Police reported that the incident occurred on October 18 around 4 PM and have stated an investigation is currently ongoing.
Andy is mourned not only by his sons but also by his mother, creating a substantial emotional gap in their lives. The family retains hope that the investigation will provide them with the answers they seek in this time of profound loss.
This tragedy highlights the importance of safety measures while engaging in water activities, especially in tourist regions known for their beautiful but unpredictable sea conditions. The support from the community for the Zou family during this difficult time is a reminder of the bonds that unite people in grief and hardship.
