Goalkeeper James Trafford has officially returned to Manchester City on a five-year contract, following a stellar season with Burnley where he played a pivotal role in the team’s promotion back to the Premier League. During his time at Burnley, he notably helped the club concede the fewest goals in the Championship last season, managing to achieve an impressive 29 clean sheets and winning the golden glove.

Trafford, who rejoined City for a reported fee of £27 million ($36 million), expressed his delight at coming back to the club where he honed his skills as a youth player for eight years. “Rejoining City is such a special and proud moment for me and my family. I always dreamed that one day I would be able to come back to Manchester City,” Trafford stated. He highlighted the club’s significance in his life, referring to it as his home and commending the unique environment City fosters.

Before his successful stint with Burnley, Trafford gained experience on loan at Accrington Stanley and Bolton Wanderers. Despite Burnley’s relegation last season, his performances were commendable, and his strong showing in the Championship has set high expectations for his upcoming career at Manchester City.

With Trafford back in the fold, he is set to wear the number one jersey as City aims for their seventh Premier League title in nine seasons when they kick off the new campaign against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 16.

This signing adds depth to City’s goalkeeping department, and with young talents like Trafford in their ranks, there’s an optimistic outlook for the team as they continue building for future success. The ongoing investment in youth and talent underlines Manchester City’s strategy to remain not just contenders in domestic leagues but also on the European stage.
