The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has reported a notable surge in traffic infringement notices issued in the initial months of 2025, with approximately 45,000 notices dispatched between January and February. This marks an increase from approximately 34,000 notices during the same timeframe last year, translating to an 11,000 rise and a significant 33 percent escalation in traffic violations.
Chief Executive Irimaia Rokosawa attributes this increase to an expanded operational framework that enhances monitoring and response to violations. Rokosawa commented, “This speaks volumes of our visibility on the road, speaks a lot about the reintroduction of our enforcement shift. Now we currently have three shifts, and our enforcement is now back to 24-7 operations.”
These enhanced enforcement measures are part of broader initiatives aimed at improving road safety and ensuring better compliance with traffic regulations across Fiji. Similar efforts were reflected in previous activities where the LTA undertook strict actions against reckless drivers, including revoking licenses and conducting counseling sessions to promote responsible driving behaviors.
