Traffic Blitz: Nearly 1000 Infringements in Just 72 Hours!

In the past 72 hours, authorities have recorded a total of 934 traffic infringements, primarily linked to the heightened activity during the Christmas shopping rush. Minor offences emerged as the most frequently cited violations, with Assistant Commissioner for Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu noting that a significant portion of drivers was penalized for not adhering to basic road regulations.

Specifically, 440 individuals were charged with minor offences, while 311 were cited for speeding, which remains a leading contributor to road accidents. ACPO Driu urged drivers to remain vigilant and comply with speed limits, stressing the dangers associated with speeding on the roads.

Other violations included 58 instances of careless driving, along with 51 drivers each booked for failing to produce a driving license and not wearing seat belts. Additionally, 10 drivers faced charges for carrying too many passengers, eight were penalized for using mobile phones while driving, and five were caught with expired driving licenses. A concerning 23 drivers were arrested for operating their vehicles under the influence of alcohol.

The assistant commissioner emphasized the importance of traffic awareness campaigns and reiterated the need for drivers to maintain proper documentation and comply with road rules. He advised the public to plan their journeys carefully, ensuring adequate rest and avoiding excessive alcohol consumption before driving.

To enhance safety, traffic officers will continue to monitor the roads closely, with checkpoints remaining operational to ensure compliance with traffic laws. ACPO Driu reassured the community that these measures are in place to protect everyone’s safety and well-being.
