Residents in the Nadi area are being informed about potential temporary traffic delays on Friday and Saturday due to the visit of the United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. Senior Superintendent of Police Kasiano Vusonilawe has clarified that while there will be no complete road closures, drivers are urged to yield to the escorting team as they approach.
On Friday, from 3 PM to 5 PM, traffic officers will be positioned along the route from Nadi International Airport to Votualevu and the Blackrock camp to manage traffic and facilitate the delegation’s movement. After 5 PM, another set of traffic control measures will be implemented from Votualevu to Denarau.
On Saturday at 9 AM, travel times may be impacted as traffic officers will also oversee the route from Denarau back to the Nadi International Airport. SSP Vusonilawe has emphasized the importance of public cooperation during this time, assuring that officers will be working diligently to minimize delays.
Overall, this visit underscores the strengthening diplomatic ties between the United States and the region, which could open doors for future cooperation and benefits for the local community. Residents are encouraged to remain patient and flexible during the traffic adjustments, and to appreciate the significance of such high-profile visits to their area.
