Motorists in Nadi should prepare for temporary traffic delays on Friday, November 22, and Saturday, November 23, as the Fiji Police Force will be managing escort duties for the visit of United States Secretary of Defense, Mr. Lloyd Austin.
While there will be no road closures, drivers are encouraged to yield to police escorts escorting the delegation. On Friday, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., officers will direct traffic along the route from Nadi Airport to Votualevu, and from Blackrock Camp, ensuring a smooth passage for the delegation. After 5:00 p.m., traffic control will be implemented along the route from Votualevu to Denarau.
On Saturday, similar traffic management will be in effect starting at 9:00 a.m. as the delegation travels from Denarau to Nadi International Airport. Senior Superintendent of Police Kasiano Vusonilawe, head of Operations for the Fiji Police Force, has assured the public that efforts will be made to minimize delays during this time. He emphasizes the importance of motorists’ cooperation in facilitating safe and efficient escort operations.
The visit of high-ranking officials like Mr. Austin presents a significant opportunity for diplomatic relations and local engagement. While traffic delays can be an inconvenience, they underscore the importance of these international exchanges and the commitment to ensuring safe transit for dignitaries.
In summary, motorists in Nadi are advised to expect delays due to police escorts for the U.S. Secretary of Defense’s visit, with assurances from local authorities to minimize disruptions during this important event.
