Expect traffic delays tomorrow morning along the Nausori to Suva route as King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau’u of Tonga will be passing through in a motorcade. The Fijian government has issued an advisory indicating that while there will be no complete road closures, significant traffic disruptions are anticipated during this time.

The royal couple is visiting Fiji to preside over the installation ceremony for Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara as Turaga Tui Nayau, Sau Ni Vanua Ko Lau, and Tui Lau, scheduled for Thursday. In Suva, a Guard of Honour made up of 100 men will greet King Tupou VI at the State House, followed by a traditional welcome ceremony. The King will also meet with the President of Fiji, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, and attend a state banquet in the evening.

This visit, which culminates on Saturday, July 12, 2025, reinforces the deep historical and cultural ties between Fiji and Tonga, especially relating to the Lau region. The collaborative spirit evidenced in the meticulous planning surrounding these events fosters a sense of unity and pride among the communities involved.

Preparations for the visit have been organized by an inter-agency task force to ensure all aspects run smoothly, echoing the sentiments from previous significant royal visits. This event not only emphasizes the power of tradition and shared identity but also serves as a hopeful reminder of the positive relationships that continue to blossom between nations in the Pacific.

Motorists are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly and exercise patience as this ceremonial occasion brings together the beauty of culture and diplomacy in the region.
