Residents in the Nadi area are being alerted to potential temporary traffic delays starting tomorrow and continuing through Saturday due to escort duties for the United States Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, who is visiting.

Senior Superintendent of Police, SSP Kasiano Vusonilawe, confirmed that while there will be no road closures, drivers should be prepared to yield to the escorting team as they approach.

On Friday, traffic control efforts will commence from 3 PM to 5 PM, where police will be stationed along the route from Nadi International Airport to Votualevu and then to Blackrock camp to facilitate the visiting delegation’s movements. Following this, the delegation will head to Denarau after 5 PM, prompting further traffic control measures from Votualevu to Denarau.

On Saturday, beginning at 9 AM, traffic officers will be present to ensure smooth traffic flow from Denarau back to Nadi International Airport. SSP Vusonilawe emphasized the importance of cooperation from the public to minimize any traffic disruptions.

This visit highlights the strengthening ties between the U.S. and Fiji, showcasing a commitment to diplomatic relations and regional collaboration, which can pave the way for future engagements and mutual benefits.

In summary, residents can expect some traffic delays due to a high-profile visit but are encouraged to work with local authorities to ensure a smooth experience for everyone.
