The rising trend of public alcohol consumption is causing a significant increase in disturbances in Savusavu, according to chairperson of the Special Administrators, Shankar Singh. He expressed concern that the growing instances of public drunkenness are tarnishing the image of local police services.

Mr. Singh stressed the need for enhanced police presence, particularly on weekends, as groups of intoxicated individuals are often seen roaming the streets, which poses safety risks for residents. He indicated that there have been multiple complaints from locals regarding this issue, suggesting that police responses have been inadequate.

In a recent meeting with the special administrators, Divisional Police Commander Senior Superintendent of Police Kemueli Baledrokadroka acknowledged the situation and noted the establishment of a communication platform via Viber for residents to report concerns regarding public disorder. He emphasized that the police are actively addressing the concerns raised in their discussions.

This community engagement between local leaders and police officials reflects a proactive approach to address public safety issues. Enhanced communication channels could foster greater collaboration between law enforcement and residents, ultimately leading to a more secure environment for everyone in Savusavu.

It is hopeful that the steps being taken will lead to a noticeable improvement in public safety and a reduction in instances of public drunkenness. As the community works together with law enforcement, they can create a safer and more enjoyable town for all residents and visitors alike.
