A tourist from the United States, Jill Juarez, who experienced illness while vacationing at a resort in Sigatoka, is currently awaiting medical test results after being admitted to Lautoka Hospital. Juarez expressed her frustration regarding the delays in receiving blood and urine results not just from the Fiji hospitals but also indicated that she had to undergo additional testing upon returning to the US.

In a social media update, she voiced her dissatisfaction with the handling of her case and the inadequate responses from local authorities. Despite the government releasing a statement that no methanol was detected in the cocktails served at the resort, Juarez highlighted her concerns about the lack of communication regarding her personal test results, which she has been informed are still held in a lab in Fiji.

She fears the potential long-term effects of her illness, noting serious health repercussions such as neurological issues and organ damage. By seeking legal representation, Juarez aims to obtain her lab results formally and pursue justice if necessary.

The Minister for Health, Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu, confirmed that the investigation related to her case is ongoing and involves the police. Meanwhile, police spokesperson Wame Bautolu stated they are actively investigating the situation. The Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka, previously confirmed in a press conference that the toxicology report from police verified the absence of methanol in the beverages.
