Tourism operator Val Parker, owner of Nanuya Island Resort, has been airlifted to Nadi for urgent medical treatment due to a serious leg infection diagnosed as cellulitis. Last week, while at her resort, Ms. Parker experienced discomfort, with her leg swelling and pain intensifying over time. Initially treated at a medical facility on Nacula Island, doctors determined she needed more advanced care.
Given the severity of her condition, especially considering her age, an airlift to PSH Hospitals in Nadi was arranged. Upon arrival, she received immediate treatment from the hospital’s medical professionals, who implemented a targeted care plan. Fortunately, Ms. Parker’s situation improved rapidly thanks to the hospital’s quick response and specialized attention.
The infection may have stemmed from an old injury – a fish spine prick while swimming years ago, which has previously caused flare-ups, particularly during stressful periods. This incident, however, was the most severe yet.
Her daughter Debbi Parker, who was present during the emergency, praised the hospital’s support and professionalism, expressing gratitude for being able to stay with her mother, making the difficult situation somewhat easier. This marked the family’s first experience with PSH Hospitals, and they were impressed, noting that the care provided exceeded their expectations, especially with access to a modern facility in Fiji.
Parvish Kumar, the Founder and CEO of PSH Hospitals, emphasizes his commitment to providing high-quality, specialist healthcare accessible to all. His mission underscores that effective healthcare combines treatment with compassion and community connection, reassuring both locals and visitors that they have reliable medical support when needed.
This case highlights the essential role of healthcare in tourism, reinforcing the importance of having robust medical facilities readily available for tourists. It provides a hopeful outlook for travelers, knowing that quality healthcare options are accessible during their stay, contributing positively to Fiji’s reputation as a welcoming and safe destination.
