Nearly 15 stakeholders in the tourism sector have come together to support Tourism Fiji’s ‘Bin It or Bag It’ litter-free campaign, contributing over $100,000 along with media space and creative expertise.
The initiative, which originated from the 2023 Fiji Tourism Convention, is spearheaded by several prominent organizations including the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel, The Holiday Inn, Rosie Holidays, and Ahura Resorts.
The ‘Bin It or Bag It’ campaign aims to encourage both Fijians and visitors to dispose of waste responsibly by using bins or, when bins are unavailable, to store waste in a bag for proper disposal later.
Brent Hill, CEO of Tourism Fiji, expressed excitement about the launch, stating, “We are thrilled to launch the ‘Bin It or Bag It’ campaign alongside our dedicated partners. This initiative embodies our commitment to sustainable tourism practices and highlights the collective responsibility we share in safeguarding Fiji’s environment.”
He further encouraged the public to adopt the campaign’s message, emphasizing its simplicity and potential impact in preserving Fiji’s natural beauty. Stakeholders hope the campaign will foster an important community movement toward becoming litter-free.
The campaign incorporates local talents, including musician Kuki and creative designer Studio Lily Kate, in collaboration with the creative agency Havas. It features a catchy jingle and distinctive Fijian illustrations.
A notable component of the campaign is ‘Kasikasi,’ a character designed to promote responsible waste management, who is set to become a recognizable face in the initiative.
