Tourism Fiji is set to name a new chief executive, with Tourism Minister Viliame Gavoka stating the selection process has reached its final stages and an announcement will be made soon. The process, carried out with advisory support from KPMG, is nearing completion according to Gavoka.

The position became vacant after Brent Hill resigned in June. Hill had been in the role for four years, completing his contract at the end of August, before moving on to become Chief Marketing Officer for Brisbane 2032, the organising committee for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Australia.

Hill’s tenure was marked by notable milestones, including a surge in visitor arrivals and the launch of major campaigns such as the award-winning Where Happiness Comes Naturally. He also championed sustainability initiatives, from introducing electric vehicles to promoting regenerative tourism, while supporting micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and fostering collaboration across the tourism sector.

With Hill’s departure, Tourism Fiji’s board has begun the search for a successor who can sustain the momentum and continue building Fiji’s position as a premier global travel destination. The government and tourism leadership remain optimistic about the sector’s ongoing growth, focusing on sustainability, community engagement, and innovative marketing to attract visitors.

As Fiji eyes the next phase of its tourism strategy, the incoming chief executive will face the task of continuing the recovery and growth trajectory, while upholding the industry’s commitments to culture, inclusivity, and environmental stewardship. The leadership transition is poised to bring fresh ideas to the table as Fiji strengthens its appeal on the world stage.
