Tourism Fiji hosted a significant industry consultation and talanoa session last week, marking a pivotal gathering of the entire Tourism Fiji Board, representatives from Fiji Airports, and various tourism operators from Vanua Levu and Taveuni. This event came on the heels of the organization’s final board meeting for the year, which took place at the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation’s Na Vualiku offices, highlighting ongoing support for the Ministry’s Na Vualiku Program.
Among the attendees were traditional leaders such as Tui Wailevu Ratu Jone Saumaibulu Maivalili, Taukei Nacibaciba Sepesa Tavanavanua, and Tui Nawadra Ratu Jope Tuitoga. Their presence underscored the significance of community partnership in directing the region’s tourism strategies.
The forum opened avenues for candid discussions regarding the opportunities, challenges, and strategic pathways aimed at enhancing tourism outcomes. Dr. Pant emphasized the importance of this session in aligning the priorities of the industry with the regional goals, showcasing a commitment to fostering effective collaboration.
Additionally, Dr. Pant revealed details about the upcoming launch of the Fiji Matai 3.0 – Fiji Travel Agent Specialist Training Program. This initiative aims to better connect international travel sellers with the unique offerings of Vanua Levu and Taveuni, which could significantly boost high-value visitor segments and ensure that benefits reach local businesses and resource owners directly.
Tourism operators expressed their appreciation for the engagement, describing the opportunity to interact directly with the board as a long-awaited necessity. They emphasized that tourism is crucial for employment, business vitality, and community well-being in the North, highlighting the pressing need for increased visibility of Vanua Levu and Taveuni in national marketing campaigns.
In response to the insights gathered during the forum, Tourism Fiji has pledged to incorporate this feedback into its 2025 marketing strategy, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive, regionally balanced, and sustainably managed tourism growth. This collaborative approach not only positions Fiji’s tourism sector for future success but also aims to ensure that the benefits of tourism are shared across the community, fostering hope and continued development in these regions.
