The Suva Touch Association is gearing up for an exciting new season, set to commence this Saturday at MGM High School Ground. This year, 11 clubs will compete with 25 teams in five categories, including Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Mixed Open, Mixed Masters, and Youth divisions for players aged U14 to U17. The season is expected to run for six to eight weeks.
As one of Fiji’s four key touch rugby associations—alongside Nasinu, Lautoka, and Nadi—Suva’s efforts are vital for the sport’s growth and development. This annual event not only offers a competitive arena for players but also acts as a springboard for many to potentially represent Fiji in prestigious international tournaments such as the Pacific Games and the Touch Rugby World Cup.
Moreover, the Suva Touch Association is committed to the grassroots level of the sport and is collaborating with the Fiji Sports Commission to enhance youth engagement. Following the conclusion of the season, plans are being made to introduce expanded youth clinics in the Suva area, reflecting the association’s focus on fostering new talent and broadening the influence of touch rugby in the community.
This initiative resonates with ongoing efforts across various sports associations in Fiji, all striving to uplift local talent and encourage community participation. The involvement of youth and local clubs not only develops athletic skills but also strengthens community ties, contributing to a promising future for sports in Fiji.
With this collaborative spirit and dedication to nurturing young athletes, the Suva Touch Association exemplifies how sports can unite communities and create opportunities for future generations.
