The Suva Touch Association is preparing for an exhilarating season ahead, as 11 clubs are set to compete with a total of 25 teams across five categories in the upcoming Suva Touch Rugby Season. The season kicks off this Saturday at the MGM High School Ground and is expected to run for six to eight weeks.
As one of the four prominent touch rugby associations in Fiji, alongside Nasinu, Lautoka, and Nadi, Suva’s involvement significantly impacts the sport’s growth and development. The competition includes divisions for Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Mixed Open, Mixed Masters, and Youth categories for players aged U14 to U17.
This annual event serves as a crucial platform for players and officials, allowing many to gain valuable experience that can lead to representation for Fiji in international tournaments, including the Pacific Games and the Touch Rugby World Cup.
In addition to the competitive aspect, the Suva Touch Association is in collaboration with the Fiji Sports Commission to foster the sport at grassroots levels. There are plans to introduce expanded clinics for youth players in the Suva area following the conclusion of the season, demonstrating the association’s dedication to nurturing new talent and expanding the reach of touch rugby.
This initiative also aligns with similar developments in the Fijian sports landscape, where various sports associations are working diligently to enhance local talent and promote engagement with the community. The participation of youth and local clubs not only cultivates sporting skills but also strengthens community bonds, paving the way for a promising future in sports across Fiji.
