The Fleming Roosters Touch Rugby revival tournament is set to take place on September 28 at St Thomas Primary School grounds in Lautoka, with 10 spots available for men’s teams. This information was shared by committee member Misa Rokovua during an interview with SUNsports.
Rokovua highlighted that the entry fee for each team is $100, but as of now, only two teams have been confirmed, and they have yet to pay their registration fees. He emphasized that this tournament aims to revive touch rugby in Lautoka and keep young people engaged in the sport, discouraging them from drugs, clubbing, and petty crimes.
He further encouraged everyone to participate, noting that even individuals without a team are welcome and can enjoy a family fun day. Rokovua mentioned the need for sponsors, as most of the funding for the event comes from the organizing committee’s efforts. He described fundraising as challenging and expressed the difficulty in attracting teams to participate.
To raise awareness about the drug crisis, they plan to invite a Police team to the tournament as well.
