Fiji Ignites Spirit: The Countdown to Coca-Cola Games 2025 Begins!

Torch Relay Ignites Excitement Ahead of Historic Coca-Cola Games

The National Torch Relay lighting ceremony commenced today, signaling the start of festivities for the 2025 Coca-Cola Games National Championship. This year is particularly significant as the Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association (FSSAA) commemorates its 50th anniversary, a landmark achievement in fostering athletics among school-aged competitors across the nation.

The relay is set to kick off its journey in Levuka tomorrow, embodying the spirit of the Games as it travels throughout Fiji. FSSAA’s acting secretary, Biu Colati, expressed pride in this milestone, noting, “It is the Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association that is turning 50, while the Games have a longer history that dates back to 1961.”

Scheduled for April 24th to 26th at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, the Coca-Cola Games is expected to draw numerous competitors and spectators. The involvement of community members and sponsors is vital to the success of these athletic events. Lawrence Tikaram, the Sponsors Coordinator for the Coca-Cola Games, shared insights into the evolution of athletics in Fiji, highlighting the importance of this moment for local sports.

Previous initiatives, such as live coverage of major competitions, have contributed to increased interest in athletics, providing essential visibility for young athletes. This year’s torch relay further encourages community participation and pride, inviting schools and supporters to come together in celebrating the passion for sports.

As anticipation rises for the Coca-Cola Games, the torch’s journey symbolizes not only recognition of past accomplishments but also a hopeful future for upcoming generations of athletes. With strong support from the community, these events are poised to create a lasting influence on Fiji’s athletic landscape, fostering growth and enthusiasm for sports in the country.
