Rayna Chand’s dedication to her studies has led her to achieve remarkable success, as she has secured the highest marks in the Fiji Eighth Year Examination for the Northern Division. The 13-year-old head girl from Wainikoro Public School in Macuata scored an impressive 485 out of a possible 500 points, marking a significant milestone for her school.
Rayna’s outstanding results included scores of 97 in English, 94 in Mathematics, 100 in Basic Science, 97 in Healthy Living, 97 in Social Science, and 88 in Hindi. She expressed gratitude to her parents, teachers, and school head teacher for their unwavering support throughout her educational journey.
Reflecting on her achievement, Rayna, a resident of Taganikula, said, “I feel proud to be the first student at my school to score the highest marks in Vanua Levu.” Motivated by her parents’ hard work—a father who is an electrician in Suva and a mother who is administrative staff at her school—Rayna committed herself to diligent study habits, which included late-night revisions and early morning wake-ups at 4 AM.
As the elder sibling, she noted that though she faced challenges like any other student, she never allowed those difficulties to deter her from reaching her goals.
Rayna’s mother, Shareeni Lal, expressed immense pride in her daughter’s accomplishments and plans to send her to Labasa College for further education. The head teacher of Wainikoro Public School, Rajesh Kumar, also celebrated Rayna’s achievement, acknowledging the assistance from the Ministry of Education in Labasa, particularly from divisional education officer Iliseva Volai and senior education officer Dharmendra Dayal. This achievement is particularly meaningful as it marks the first time WPS has garnered the highest marks in the Northern Division, making the school community proud.
In addition to her academic success, Rayna was recognized as the school dux this year, underscoring her role as a prominent leader and exemplary student.
This inspiring story serves as a testament to the power of hard work and determination in achieving one’s dreams. Rayna’s success can motivate other students to strive for excellence, highlighting the importance of commitment and support in education.
The recognition of her accomplishments not only celebrates Rayna as an individual but also uplifts her entire community, showcasing the potential for greatness within every student.
