Tonga Communications Corporation (TCC) is actively working to improve digital connectivity within the Kingdom of Tonga, with several noteworthy developments on the horizon. Established as a key player in enhancing customer experience, TCC announced the launch of an Unlimited Plan for Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL), which utilizes existing copper phone lines to deliver faster and more reliable internet access. This plan is designed with affordability and quality in mind, allowing users to browse, stream, and download without the stress of data limitations.
In a significant leap for telecommunications in Tonga, TCC also introduced a 5G network on December 4, 2024. The 5G rollout is marking a milestone in connectivity across various locations, including Kolofo’ou, Fasi, and Havelu, among others. A live demonstration at one of TCC’s offices showcased impressive download speeds of 854 Mbps, though the CEO, Mr. Veikoso, cautioned that speed may vary based on proximity to towers and current network traffic.
Moreover, in an effort to bridge connectivity gaps in remote areas, TCC unveiled Broadband Anywhere on March 22, 2024. This product commits to delivering satellite-operated broadband services, ensuring uninterrupted internet access for consumers in even the most isolated regions of Tonga. Mr. Veikoso emphasized that collaboration with Kacific will enhance service delivery and align with TCC’s vision of being the foremost provider of digital communications in the Kingdom.
