The highly anticipated 61kg title bout between boxers Mikaele Ravalaca and Ronald Naidu, scheduled for February 22, has been canceled. Bluewater Boxing promoter Samir Khan confirmed that Ravalaca’s team declined the fight offer as they had already committed to another contest in Australia on February 28.

Khan took to social media to reveal that he had approached both fighters regarding the vacant title. Ravalaca, fresh off a recent victory in Australia, expressed during his post-fight interview a desire for title opportunities in Fiji. However, despite the promising prospect of a title fight on home soil, Ravalaca’s camp felt compelled to prioritize their scheduled engagement in Australia.

Khan emphasized that he was providing Ravalaca with a significant opportunity to fight a quality opponent, which he believed would not be available in Australia. Ravalaca’s trainer, Nesta Ranuku, explained that although Ravalaca believed he could manage both fights in close succession, his management had to consider all factors involved.

The situation has sparked varied reactions among boxing fans on social media, with some advocating for Ravalaca to seize the title opportunity in Fiji, while others argue that securing a fight overseas may offer a better platform for his career advancement.

Overall, while it is disappointing for fans hoping to see the title match, it appears that Ravalaca and his team are making strategic decisions aimed at enhancing his ranking and opportunities in the competitive boxing landscape. There’s hope that this path could lead to even greater prospects for Ravalaca in the future, showcasing his commitment to both his career and the sport.
