Sakiusa Tubuna (Senior) and his wife Karalaini Koto Tubuna recently celebrated a remarkable 60 years of marriage, symbolizing enduring love and commitment. The joyous occasion took place at Albert Park, where the couple gathered with family and friends last month.

Married in 1965, the Tubunas reflected on their journey together, marked by understanding, trust, and respect. Sakiusa, a retired educator who rose to become the director of the Fiji Centre, expressed that celebrating six decades of love is a blessing from God. With roots in Suvavou, Rewa and Namuana Village in Kadavu, the couple’s early days were filled with cherished memories of their youth.

Sakiusa shared the heartwarming story of their first meeting during Patteson Day at Wailoku. At the time, he was a teacher, and an impromptu introduction to Karalaini, a nurse aide, led to a connection that would flourish into a quick courtship. They married in Wailoku, surrounded by supportive family and friends.

Throughout their six decades, the couple faced challenges but remained dedicated to each other, adhering to their marriage vows. As they navigated life’s ups and downs, their commitment was solidified through open communication, appreciation, affection, and forgiveness. “We talk about almost everything together,” Sakiusa noted, which has become integral to their relationship.

The Tubunas take immense pride in their family, which has grown to include three sons and a daughter. Their sacrifices for their children have laid the foundation for their successful futures, highlighting the importance of dedication and biblical principles in their family life.

At 82 and 83, Sakiusa and Karalaini enjoy daily companionship in their home in Tamavua, embodying a timeless love story. Their experience offers hope and inspiration for generations to come, showcasing the beauty of enduring partnerships built on mutual respect and faith.

In celebrating their 60 years together, the Tubunas not only honor their past but also encourage others to cherish love and build strong connections in their own lives. Their journey serves as a reminder that love, patience, and understanding are the cornerstones of a lasting marriage.
