Thousands of students are facing the potential loss of tertiary funding as over 4,000 applications for financial assistance remain incomplete. The Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Service (TSLS) has reported receiving nearly 9,000 applications this year, but more than 4,200 are still awaiting completion.

TSLS Chief Executive Apisalome Movono highlighted that many applications are missing required documents or have been submitted with unaccepted program offers. He urged students to take immediate action and contact TSLS if they need assistance. Movono noted, “So, to preferred programs, there are students who haven’t checked their emails or have not responded. Some students have not submitted documents, and some may be stuck in the system. So, we are encouraging our students to reach out to us.”

Amid these challenges, first-year university student Losalini Balemaitaveuni expressed her gratitude for TSLS support, stating, “I am so happy that I’m getting this scholarship because I cannot afford to pay for my own fees. So it is a big assistance for me.”

Valuvei Ana from Taveuni also shared her excitement about receiving TSLS support, which brings her closer to her aspirations of studying health. “I’m really excited to start university because it has always been my dream to study health, and with the support from TSLS, I feel more confident going into this new chapter,” she said.

As the new semester approaches, TSLS is encouraging all students to finalize their applications promptly to secure scholarships and loans. The organization has support services available to assist applicants in completing the process, ensuring that deserving students do not miss out on essential financial assistance. With timely action, many students can look forward to achieving their educational dreams with the help of TSLS.
