Opposition MP Ketan Lal has expressed that while Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka may have noble intentions in aiming for another term in the 2026 General Election, Fiji is in need of a new generation of leaders.
Lal acknowledged the Prime Minister’s track record but criticized his leadership, arguing that Fiji has not achieved the necessary progress or momentum essential for the nation. He pointed out that bold and innovative ideas are required to tackle pressing issues, such as economic recovery and climate change.
According to Lal, many Fijians are pursuing better opportunities abroad, and critical infrastructure projects are experiencing substantial delays. He contended that as long as Rabuka remains a dominant figure in politics, opportunities for young leaders and fresh ideas will dwindle.
Lal urged the Prime Minister to demonstrate his commitment to empowering youth and women by stepping aside, allowing new leaders to emerge. He called on Rabuka to retire honorably, paving the way for the next generation to shape Fiji’s future.
“By doing this, he would establish a legacy of service and selflessness, prioritizing the long-term progress and growth of the country. It’s time for new vision, energy, and leadership in Fiji, and the younger generation is prepared to take on that challenge,” he stated.
