The Ministry of Fisheries’ Team Aqua North has successfully wrapped up a three-day training workshop for tilapia farmers in Namocemoce Village, Seaqaqa, aimed at enhancing aquaculture practices and boosting farm productivity in the northern region. This initiative is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to support inland fisheries and promote sustainable development within local communities.

Taking place in Dreketi, the training emphasized practical, hands-on learning experiences tailored for the participants. Attendees engaged in various field-based activities, including techniques for monitoring the health and growth of tilapia through fish sampling, methods for calculating feed to improve feeding efficiency, soil testing to evaluate pond suitability, and water retention techniques crucial for maintaining optimal conditions in aquaculture.

Farmers from the three provinces of Cakaudrove, Bua, and Macuata were nominated to attend the training, highlighting a collaborative approach to advancing fish farming in the area. The ministry expects that these selected participants will implement and disseminate the knowledge gained within their communities, ultimately strengthening local fish farming operations.

The Ministry of Fisheries reiterated its dedication to building the capacity of local farmers, enhancing tilapia production, and promoting sustainable aquaculture practices throughout the Northern Division. With this training, the ministry aims not only to improve fish farming techniques but also to foster a sense of community and shared growth among participants, pointing to a hopeful future for aquaculture in the region.
