Tilak High School Triumphs in 2024 National Math Competition

Tilak High School has been declared the champions of the 2024 National Team Mathematics Competition (TMC). The event, held at LDS College in Suva, featured students from various schools across the nation showcasing their mathematical abilities.

The winning team, guided by Shaeez Khan and supported by math teacher Ana Vatubula, demonstrated exceptional skills throughout the competition. The assistant principal credited this success to the hard work and dedication of both the teachers and students.

Tilak High School secured first place with their Year 11 and Year 13 teams, while the Year 12 team achieved second place. Earlier in the year, during Week 10 of Term 2, Team Tilak had already marked their presence by finishing as the zonal runner-up in a competition at SVC, setting the stage for their national triumph.

Mr. Narayan emphasized the need for a shift in mindset regarding mathematics in schools, highlighting its potential to motivate students. He stated, “Maths starts from zero and never ends.”

The success at this year’s competition reflects the unwavering commitment of the Mathematics and Physics department teachers, who diligently prepared the students. Their hard work has not only brought pride to Tilak High School but has also inspired younger students to strive for excellence in mathematics.

The team proudly displayed their trophies, which symbolize their hard-earned achievements and Tilak High School’s ongoing excellence in academic competitions. With these accomplishments, the school maintains its reputation as one of Fiji’s top institutions for academic excellence.
