Tilak High School Triumphs at National Math Championships!

Tilak High School has been declared the 2024 National Team Mathematics Competition (TMC) Champions. The event took place at LDS College in Suva, gathering students from various schools nationwide to display their mathematical talents.

The victorious team was spearheaded by Shaeez Khan, with guidance from Mathematics teacher Ana Vatubula. The assistant principal remarked, “This victory is the result of the hard work and dedication of our teachers and students.”

Tilak High School’s Year 11 and Year 13 teams both achieved first place, while the Year 12 team claimed second place. Earlier in the year, during Week 10 of Term 2, Team Tilak had previously earned the title of zonal runner-up in a competition hosted at SVC, a feat that helped pave the way for their national triumph.

Mr. Narayan emphasized the need for a shift in mentality regarding mathematics in schools, stating, “Maths is a great motivator – it starts from zero and never ends.”

The school’s triumph in this year’s competition highlights the steadfast dedication of the Mathematics and Physics department teachers, who have worked diligently to prepare the students. Their hard work has instilled pride in the school and inspired younger students to excel in mathematics.

The team proudly displayed their trophies, which represent their hard-won success and symbolize Tilak High School’s ongoing legacy in academic competitions. With such accomplishments, the school continues to elevate its standards, solidifying its reputation as one of Fiji’s premier institutions for academic excellence.
