Tilak High School has been awarded the title of 2024 National Team Mathematics Competition (TMC) Champions. The event took place at LDS College in Suva, gathering students from various schools nationwide to demonstrate their mathematical abilities.
The triumphant team was guided by Shaeez Khan, with the valuable support of Mathematics teacher Ana Vatubula. The assistant principal attributed this achievement to the dedication and hard work of both the teachers and students.
Their perseverance bore fruit as the Year 11 and Year 13 teams clinched first place, while the Year 12 team secured second place. Earlier in the year, during Week 10 of Term 2, Team Tilak finished as the zonal runner-up in a competition at SVC, which helped pave the way for their national success.
In discussing the future of mathematics in schools, Mr. Narayan emphasized the need for a shift in mindset, stating, “One thing that needs to change in schools is the mentality towards maths. Maths is a great motivator – it starts from zero and never ends.”
The accomplishments of Tilak High School in this year’s competition showcase the relentless efforts of the Mathematics and Physics department teachers, who dedicated their time to prepare the students. This success not only brings pride to the school but also motivates younger students to aim for excellence in mathematics.
The team proudly displayed their trophies, which symbolize their hard work and reflect Tilak High School’s ongoing success in academic competitions. Such achievements continue to elevate the school’s standing, reinforcing its reputation as one of Fiji’s premier institutions for academic excellence.
