Tilak High School has been declared the champions of the 2024 National Team Mathematics Competition (TMC). The event took place at LDS College in Suva and featured students from various schools nationwide, all eager to demonstrate their mathematical abilities.
Leading the winning team was Shaeez Khan, with guidance from math teacher Ana Vatubula. The assistant principal remarked, “This victory is the result of the hard work and dedication of our teachers and students.” The students’ efforts were evident, as the Year 11 and Year 13 teams claimed first place, while the Year 12 team finished in second.
Earlier this year, during Week 10 of Term 2, Team Tilak had already shown promise by finishing as the zonal runner-up in a competition at SVC, which helped build the foundation for their national success.
Mr. Narayan emphasized the need for a shift in perspective about mathematics in schools, stating, “Maths is a great motivator – it starts from zero and never ends.” The achievement of Tilak High School in this competition highlights the relentless dedication of the Mathematics and Physics department teachers, who invested significant time in training their students.
The team’s pride was palpable as they celebrated with their trophies, which symbolize both their hard work and Tilak High School’s ongoing excellence in academic contests. This triumph further solidifies the school’s status as one of Fiji’s premier educational institutions committed to academic achievement.
